Fishing around Badachro

Loch fishing

imageMost of the lochs in the immediate vicinity of Badachro provide trout fishing, and are owned by the Shieldaig Lodge Hotel. Permits can be purchased by contacting the hotel (01445 741250).

Outside of the immediate Badachro area, most lochs are governed by the Gairloch Angling club and permits can be acquired from the Chandlery shop at Gairloch Harbour.

Sea fishing

Sea angling from the shore can be very good. Plenty of mackerel, pollock and some sea trout can easily be caught using simple spinning tackle from just about anywhere where the rocky shoreline allows access to water of sufficient depth. There are some further tips as to the best places to fish locally provided in the information folder in your cottage. Boat trips leaving from the harbour can be booked for sea fishing in Gairloch bay.

Tackle

Fishing tackle and accessories can be purchased in a few of the shops around Gairloch. Cornerstone newsagent at Strath are probably the best stocked with a good selection of tackle including rods and reels if required.

The Chandlery shop at the harbour also sells quite a bit of fishing tackle and local fishing guides can be purchased here as well. The Farm and Garden shop in Gairloch also stocks a very small selection of angling accessories.

If you are travelling through Inverness, the Graham's outdoor shop on Castle Street is a must visit as it is an Aladdin's cave for all types of angling gear and traditional outdoor pursuits in general.
